A 25-mpg gas SUV at $3.30/gal runs ~13¢ per mile. Drive 12,000 miles a year and home charging saves roughly $1,000+ annually, before you skip the oil changes. National Grid also offers off-peak EV rate programs that can cut that further — worth a call.

The federal $7,500 new-EV and $4,000 used-EV credits expired September 30, 2025 under legislation passed that summer. Purchases after that date no longer qualify — budget accordingly, and be wary of any listing still advertising it.
New York offers an income tax credit for EV charging equipment installation, and some utilities rebate smart chargers or off-peak charging. Ask your electrician to quote with and without the paperwork.
